What we're up to these days...

We have found ourselves in a very cold, very snowy winter. In the last month school has been cancelled at least one day each week. On two occasions last week I took Sophie into the office with me. She was actually really great and an office hit - a good distraction for everyone :)

Here's a shot of a day where I had to pick her up early from school. All of this snow fell between 9am and 2pm!

Last weekend we decided to take advantage of the weather and went to Camelback Mountain in the Poconos for a mini ski vacation with our friends Don, Ally and their son Oliver. We enrolled Sophie in ski school for the first time. Here she is before getting on to the skis. Unfortunately she lasted about 45 minutes in ski school before she was over it and Dave had to go pick her up. I think it was a combo of the cold, not knowing anyone in the group, and being uncomfortable on the skis. We'll give it another try next year and see if it takes...

Now that she's in the Primary pre-school, Sophie has to make Valentine's for her entire class of 22 kids. We got started on the project early so we could work on them all week - and we definitely needed to. Of course, tomorrow is Valentine's day and school is already cancelled, but I'm assuming they'll reschedule the exchange, as I'm sure we're not the only family who has spent a good amount of time on these!

And Lauren is becoming a real little kid. She's eating with a spoon now, and definitely wants to do it for herself, rather than being helped. Ready for Montessori I guess.

Spoon Please

Sophie is starting to get the hang of feeding herself with a spoon. The food doesn't always make it successfully into her mouth - but she's getting there. Which frees up our hands to do other things. Ah... independence (sort of).
She's really into spinach right now. Not sure how long it'll last, but we're enjoying it while we can.

Very proud of herself.

Thanksgiving 2010

We spent Thanksgiving down in Virginia. Mom and Dad had a house full and Dave cooked the ENTIRE dinner for 16 people all by himself (well, I checked on some things in the oven, but we won't count that).
Here he is with the 22lb. turkey. Thanks to Catherine and Hannah for bringing the meat thermometer or we might have been waiting until midnight for that sucker to cook.

Sophie had some close encounters with Vahid the tortoise. Soon he'll be as big as she is.
On Thanksgiving morning we ran a 5K (Sophie cheered with mom from the sidelines). She probably worked off at least one piece of pie... maybe.
Sophie had her first taste of turkey.  From the looks of it she seems to like it. But we haven't actually found a food that she doesn't like.
We went for a hike on Friday.

Highchair

As we're moving into our 4th week of solid food (and loving it), Sophie has finally moved up to sitting at the table in her highchair. She's a happy baby as long as the food keep coming!

First Solid Food - the action shots

We just got a Mac and are having fun learning how to make movies. Here's a first shot at it - Sophie's first taste of solid food to the tune of the Gipsy Kings.

First Solid Foods - the stills

We started Sophie on rice cereal last weekend. I think these photos appropriately capture the mess that is now eating. She's seems to enjoy it though - just like her parents :)
